2023 Guidlines

Eligibility

The annual Friends of Lake Robinson (FoLR) juried art competition is open to the general public regardless of age.

Artwork Guidelines

We invite you to submit photos or two-dimensional artwork capturing the Natural World of the Upstate. Only original art, created in 2019 or later, and submitted by the Artist will be accepted. If creating art in the park, please respect the rules and refrain from entering the restricted areas marked in the park. Please include, on the application form, a brief description of where the photograph or artwork was created.

Two Artist Tiers

In an attempt to increase competition, we will have the following two tiers: 

Tier 1 - New and Returning Artists who have never won 1st, 2nd or 3rd Place or received Honorable Mention awards in the past five (5) competitions (2017, 2018/9, 2020, 2021 or 2022).

Tier 2 – Artists who have previously won 1st, 2nd or 3rd Place or received Honorable Mention awards in the past five (5) competitions (2017, 2018/9, 2020, 2021 or 2022). 

Artists in both tiers are strongly encouraged to submit two (2) entries to increase competition but a single Artist may only Place (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) once and/or receive one Honorable Mention.

Entry Fee and Procedures

We are asking for a non-refundable entry fee of $10.00 per entry (under 19 years old as of December 31, 2022 are half price), with a limit of two (2) entries per Artist. All entry fees must be received by March 1, 2023.

To Enter the Contest

  • Fill in and submit the online application form (a link to the application is at the bottom of this page).
  • If you are submitting a photograph, you will need to submit a JPG file sized to 2048 pixels on the long edge.
  • For other types of 2D art, take a high-quality digital photograph of your artwork and submit a JPG file sized to 2048 pixels on the long edge.
  • As part of your application, you will upload your artwork entry(s) and may pay your entry fee(s) online.
  • If you wish to pay your entry fee(s) by check, please make the check payable to Friends of Lake Robinson and mail to P.O. Box 446, Taylors, SC 29687.
  • All entry fees must be paid/received no later than March 1, 2023. 

Presentation

Selected photographs and paintings must be framed and mounted for hanging by wire. Metal and Canvas prints do not require framing, but must have a wire for hanging. The artist’s name shall not be imprinted on the artwork, and the artwork can be no larger than 24 inches on the longest edge, including the frame. If works are not adequately prepared for display, they will be withdrawn from the contest.

Delivery

Selected entries must be hand delivered the first week of April 2023, the specific date(s), time(s) and location to be specified at a later date.

Prizes

  • Tier 1 - First Place $200, Second Place $100, Third Place $50, and 3 Honorable Mentions.
  • Tier 2 - First Place $200, Second Place $100, Third Place $50.
  • In addition to the Tier 1 and 2 selections noted above, up to 11 Entries will be selected for Exhibit.

Sale of Photos

Sales are at Artist’s discretion. If the Artist wishes to place his or her work up for sale, it must be indicated on the application form. All proceeds go to the Artist. The buyer will be responsible for contacting the Artist to arrange purchase.

Important Dates

  • Start accepting online entries: Saturday, January 7, 2023
  • Submit applications and JPG images: No later than Wednesday, March 1, 2023
  • Entry fee(s) must be paid online or checks received: No later than March 1, 2023
  • Notification of results: April 8, 2023 (this date may vary) 
  • Delivery of selected artworks: Beginning of April 2023 (exact location, dates and times To Be Determined (TBD))
  • Exhibition location and dates:
    • Selected artwork will be on display in Greer City Hall from mid-April 2023 through the beginning of June 2023 (exact dates TBD)
    • Reception at Greer City Hall in early June 2023 (exact date and times TBD)
  • Pickup after exhibition/reception will be at a location and date TBD.

Other Information

The Friends of Lake Robinson (FoLR) will handle entries with utmost care, but is not responsible for loss or damage to the submitted artwork. All selected entries must grant permission to FoLR to use the photos on FoLR note cards, our website, and on communication cards to FOLR members.
